SUSE finalized the formal certification test of their SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for z Systems 12, Service Pack 1, as a Linux guest system of KVM for IBM z Systems. SUSE and IBM are partnering together again to bring greater access to Linux on the mainframe.
See the SUSE Bulletin entry for more details. The SUSE YES CERTIFIED mark is widely respected in the industry and represents compatibility of SUSE’s products with third party products.
As the first Linux distributor, SUSE started in Aug 2015 to support KVM for IBM z Systems with their SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for z Systems 12. KVM’s virtualization on IBM z Systems allows businesses to reduce costs by deploying fewer systems to run more workloads, sharing resources and improving service levels to meet demand. KVM makes the operational control of virtualization on the mainframe pluggable and familiar to people who are using the standards-based KVM approach for virtualization and cloud.
