Day 1 at IBM EDGE has been much more than could have been expected .. standing room only in sessions , engaging speakers and the need to know more , much more , Kicking off the day , Tom Rosamilia certainly gave the audience the opening they needed to hear .The needs of the healthcare industry as one of the top 5 data intensive industries , RedBull racing using data analytics to improve race results just two of the areas that piqued everyone’s interest.
Mr. Rosamillia also emphasized the benefits of Hybrid Cloud in his keynote. IBM z Systems made a number of software announcements for Hybrid Cloud at IBM Edge.
Organizations across all industries are investing in cloud technologies for innovation, growth, and efficiency. Those customers are blending public cloud, private cloud, and traditional information technology platforms. IBM wants to deepen the integration across the hybrid environments.
“Today’s business environment is very dynamic and filled with disruption,” said Tom Rosamilia, senior vice president of IBM Systems. “A hybrid cloud model enables clients to continuously adapt while also optimizing on-premises investments. IBM is uniquely able to support the flexibility clients need across IBM Systems and the cloud.”
As part of their focus on Hybrid Cloud IBM launched new IBM z Systems Cloud offerings for Operational Insights and Hybrid Application Performance Management. Cloud-based services analyze Z System performance, provide recommended actions, and enable continuous benchmarking.
Blockchain Trends and Directions
Blockchain is the latest in technologies and this a hot topic at IBMEdge. Several speakers during the morning keynote “Trends and Directions” spoke about how the blockchain will change the way we do transactions. The recent cyber hacks off Bitcoin and Ethereum were mentioned in an overall discussion on security. Developing a secure blockchain is imperative, so that the technology can be used without fear. Both IBM z Systems and LinuxONE offer special security, at the hardware level via secure containers and tamper proof cards.
